How-to: Evaluate your week

How-to: Evaluate your week

I walk my clients through a process where we evaluate their week. I started doing this with my coach and it's one of my favorite things to do.

Sit down with a notepad and make a list.

What worked well this week?

What didn't work well this week?

What can I do differently next week?

It's easy to forget the things that worked well and only focus on what didn't work. Our brains looovvvee to focus on the things that didn't work.

It can be challenging to come up with the list of what worked when you first get started. Try to come up with at least five things, and they can be simple.

What worked well this week:

  • Work was out of control, but I didn't sit in the corner and cry

  • I made a mistake on a report, but I didn't beat myself up over it.

  • I stood up for myself when it would have been easy to stay quiet.

  • I followed my morning routine ALL week

  • I learned a quick and easy way to remove my gel pedicure

Next, come up with a list of what didn't work. Easy on this one if you're used to beating yourself up. That is not the purpose of this exercise. Do this as a way to measure the results of your efforts. Examples below:

What didn't work well this week:

  • I didn't give myself enough time to prospect new business

  • I didn't schedule enough breaks and felt exhausted

  • I made 10 cold calls and got zero responses

  • I gained 2 pounds

  • My self-care was non-existent.

  • Mine: I got obsessed with Tiger King and went off the deep end and tried to figure out how I could write to him in prison (kidding, sorta)

Third, make a list of what you'll do differently. I completely geek out on this part because I love to come up with strategies. Review each bullet point from what didn't work, and come up with a strategy for each.

What I'll do differently next week

  • Schedule 2 hours for prospecting each day. Have my prospecting list ready to go Monday morning so I can hit the ground running

  • Schedule two 15-minute breaks each day

  • Spend an hour researching cold call strategies on Monday. Test and measure two of them next week. (this will show up in your following weekly review. If the new strategy worked, you would rinse and repeat)

  • Cut out sugar completely next week. Don't eat after 8PM

  • Add one self-care habit to morning or evening routine. Come up with one that is easy enough to follow in the beginning.

The key to all of this is that you must implement the strategies. Add them to your to-do list or schedule them on your calendar.

This process allows you to determine what you can control and come up with strategies to help you get closer to having a more balanced and productive life.
