My $800 Month
I'm going to share an example of why what you think is more important than what you do.
I thought this was super “woo-woo” and fluff for most of my life, I was all about the action.
I was wrong, and I wanted to share a powerful example.
Be super curious about how this could apply to any of your current struggles.
Early in my business, I was going through my monthly review for the previous month.
I created $800 that month.
I could feel the panic rising in my chest.
I went off the rails a little bit. Lol. Okay, a lot.
And it looked like this:
"well, technically, that's enough to pay a few of my bills."
"But it's not enough."
"I'm going to run out of money."
"I could get a roommate."
"I could get a part-time job."
"I could sell my house and buy a tiny house."
"I could sell everything and move in with my Mom (sorry, Mom, I would have asked first. lol)."
Off. The. Effing. Rails
As you can imagine, I felt: Chaotic, panicked, desperate, nervous, and overwhelmed.
And because I'm human, here's how I reacted to (and from) those emotions.
Went into full-blown catastrophe mode.
Researched ways to save money/use coupons.
Desperately tried to sign new clients (AKA the worst way to sell anything)
Browsed online for good deals, ways to save money
I thought about things I could sell.
Consider cashing out my eTrade account or Roth IRA (THANK god I didn't do that. #teslastock)
I had a hard time sleeping.
(One interesting thing that didn't happen during this phase was I never regretted quitting my job. So fascinating!)
Here's what I didn't do.
Work (I was too busy trying to save money 🤣)
Make money
Focus on improving my coaching skills.
Offer value to the world.
Show up and focus on growing my business.
My thought: "I am going to run out of money" + panic + the way I reacted guaranteed that I would run out of money.
Not because that was just what was going to happen.
It was because of the way I reacted when I believed that thought.
I suffered through this for a hot minute. I don't remember exactly how long, but it was several weeks.
So, one day I sat down and coached myself through it.
I grabbed a notepad and wrote, "What else is true?" at the top.
I'm okay today.
I do have access to all the information I need to run a profitable business.
I knew it would be hard in the beginning.
I need time to build up my clientele.
And then the one that changed everything.
"Well, technically, based on what I have in my checking account, I don't even need to pay myself for four months."
Immediate shift.
Changed the entire trajectory of my business.
I immediately felt calm.
Here's how this thought played out.
That thought made me feel calm. I could think more rationally, so I decided that I wouldn't spend a second thinking about money until that four-month mark hit.
[ My brain for sure tried to go there, but I would immediately shut it down.]
I just focused on showing up every day and helping as many people as I could.
As you can imagine, I helped more people, I showed up cleaner in my business, and my results changed organically.
I didn't have a single money issue whatsoever after that initial drama; quite the opposite.
And I owe it all that one thought shift.
Without that, nothing else would have mattered.
If I had held onto it, that belief would have been proven true because of how it made me feel and react.
Like the law of gravity.
You cannot "out-action" a limiting belief, and you will exhaust yourself trying.
If your mindset sucks, so will your results (it doesn't matter what action you take).
If your mindset serves you, so will your results (it doesn't matter what action you take, it's all organic).
Plug your struggle in using this example and challenge yourself to find a shift in thinking that serves you.
One thought shift can change the trajectory of your day, week, month, year, and life.
