How to unlock badass mode
I wanted to share a powerful experience I had today because I know many of you will resonate.
(For those of you that are new - I set an impossible goal for myself for 2021.)
I'm writing this on a Sunday afternoon, and I typically don't work weekends.
I haven't hit my goal for the week.
I did all the things that I put on the calendar, checked all the boxes.
But I didn't create the result that I set out to create.
Immediately, my brain went to:
"Well, it's an impossible goal, so I kinda knew it wouldn't happen."
"It's not that big of a deal; I'm doing good enough."
"Technically, I said I wouldn't work weekends."
"I don't want to push myself too hard." (as if I'm roofing a house mid-summer. 🤣😂)
I had a choice:
1) Take the "it-is-what-it-is" approach all call it a day
2) Go all-in, and decide that I'm not leaving anything on the field. (Isn't that what they say in football for giving it everything you've got?) 😂🤣
You know what I mean.
So I got super curious.
I set an impossible goal because I knew it would push my limits.
I have to change the way I show up to create it.
I asked myself this one question...
"What would I do if I was more committed to my goal than my desire to relax?"
Holy-mind-blowing-moment.
So I sat with that…
What would I actually do?
I didn't have to do them, I just wanted to figure out what I would do if I was more committed to the goal.
From curiosity, I came up with a list of ten things that I would do.
And then I thought “Hmm…what If I just consciously decide that I'm going to be more committed to my goal than relaxing?"
So I did.
And I got up, went to my desk, and knocked those ten things out.
I easily could have gone with option 1 and called it a day.
EASILY.
I had a few “ugh, I don't feel like it” moments in the process, but I kept reminding myself that I'm all in.
The hardest part is always the waffling back and forth.
Once you commit, it just flows.
I don't even know if those extra ten things will help me hit my goal for the week.
But I do know that I'm sitting here smiling, feeling like a complete badass, and writing this email to help inspire those of you that find yourself at the same fork in the road.
I feel like a badass just for showing up.
I feel so much better than I would have if I had just called it a day and binge-watched Love After Lock-up (yes, that's a real show, and it's amazing.)
Don't get me wrong; I'm still going to watch that show; I'm just going to enjoy it ten times more now because I feel like a badass.
I highly encourage you to use this question.
What would I do if I was more committed to losing weight than feeling the dopamine hit from snacking?
What if I was more committed to my sales goal than my fear of coming across "salesy?"
Get curious about what you would do differently.
And then consciously decide to be more committed to the thing that you really want.
That's how you move the needle.
