"I wonder if things will ever get better..."

"I wonder if things will ever get better..."

I felt stuck in that mode for years.

What if the best part of my life was behind me?

I have had a lot of fun, I thought. My life has been pretty good. My career was great, but the rest...not so much.

I wanted more out of life. I grew tired of traveling for work because I didn't have the time or energy to build a personal life when I was home. I felt stuck, uninspired, hopeless, and in regret-and-dread mode.

I was in a cycle of regretting my past or dreading the future, regretting that I put way too much focus on my career and not enough on my personal life. Dreading the future because deep down, I did not believe it could or would ever get better.

It was just going to be more of the same. Like there wasn't an ounce of me that thought my life could change. I would have lost everything I owned if someone had bet me.

I felt completely powerless. I was waiting for something to change so that I could be happy.

I wanted the "universe" to step in to make things better. I wanted to travel less, so I could spend more time creating a life outside of work. I just waited day after day, week after week, and year after year.

I grew super resentful of my circumstances, of myself for not having the courage to fix it, that big old fun mental spin out. I made the best of my circumstances, but I felt like I had no control over how the future played out whatsoever.

But I was wrong. And if you're in the same boat, you're wrong too.

Best. News. Ever. Our future doesn't just happen to us; we create it.

Not in an affirmation-think-positive-things-good-things-will-happen-kind-of-way,

I'm talking in a meaty-decide-what-you-want-make-a-plan-and-go-get-that-shit kind of way.

What if that is true? What if that is available to you right now? No matter where you are in life and what you're going through.

What if the most important thing you have to do is change your beliefs about your future?

What do you believe about your future? Make a list.

Make sure you like those beliefs because they are self-fulling prophecies. If you believe that it probably won't get better, you'll prove yourself right because the first sign of a problem you'll cave in or surrender.

If you believe that you have no control over your future, you'll prove yourself right by putting the responsibility of your happiness on other people (doesn't work.)

If you believe that you are going to find a way to create a future that you love, you'll prove yourself right by taking a different approach when you run into a problem.

If you believe that you deserve to live a super fun and exciting life, you'll prove yourself right by trying many different things until you find what works best for you.

You can create a new future for yourself starting right now regardless of your circumstances.

Your future is your property and 100% within your control. Decide to own it.

I know how painful it is to feel powerless, and I can promise you that it feels incredible on the other side. We get one shot at this life, go all-in on creating a future you love.
